The steps involved in a complete transfer of hosting from another company, to us:

- Read our terms and conditions - Click HERE
- Purchase your "Rescue Me" Hosting package from our online store - you will be given the link after terms & conditions acceptance
- Complete a hosting transfer form - again, after terms and conditions acceptance, you will be given the link
- Fax your completed form to us on: 1-970-266-0158
- Fax a copy to your EXISTING HOSTING COMPANY - or - if you don't have a fax number for them - email them and advise them that "Web Your Business" will be taking over the hosting of your domain.
Next, we will take over the hosting. This involves the following steps - some or all can be taken care of by us:
- We issue an IP address for your site (all our Business hosting accounts have their own IP address which can be used to load data before the DNS catches up with the changes - Starter accounts will receive login details, but share an IP with other accounts)
- Setup a hosting account on one of our servers with login & password to your allocated web space
- Setup DNS records for your new hosting account with us - ie, we point your domain to your space on our server
- Optionally, load your data from your old account to your new account with us - you may want to do this yourself, or have us do it for you.
- Optionally, review your pages for changes that might need to be done (paths in CGI Scripts, re-write CGI scripts or ASP pages etc) - again, you may opt to do this, or you want us to do it for you.
- Update the registrar records to allow us to serve your DNS - you may want to do this if you know how, or we can do it for you (you might need to provide us a few extra details, such as a password - which will depend on the registrar used to register the domain name - e.g. Network Solutions, register.com, Open SRS, etc, etc.)
- Wait for the updates to take place to the DNS servers around the world - usually 24-36 hours wait time
- Ask your current hosting company to STOP serving DNS for your domain - this is PARTICULARLY important if your hosting company is ALSO your ISP. Otherwise, when using their Dialup or Broadband connections, you are probably using their DNS - unless they stop serving DNS, you will always be looking at an old version on THEIR SERVERS, not the correct version on our servers. Many small ISPs/Hosting companies don't even realize that this will be a problem!
While these steps sound quite complicated, we are very experienced in dealing with other hosting companies, domain name registrars, and very quick & efficient at making all the necessary changes needed to get a domain transferred. Having learn through many examples, we have streamlined the processes involved by getting you to sign our 'Hosting Transfer Form' - which gets sent to your existing company - it effectively tells them to let us take over the hosting of the domain - which is why you, the domain owner need to sign it.
We have DETAILED instructions for every major Domain Registrar - transferring domains used to be a troublesome affair - we have simplified the process to remove almost ALL the hassle!
Once we get started (ie, you have sent us the forms and payment) the whole procedure normally takes from 36 hours to 72 hours - it can take longer if we are waiting on your previous hosting company to update the registrar database, or if the database updates only occur periodically. Difficult hosting companies can delay this procedure even further if they will not release information or do their part promptly.
